Collaboration Overview
About Students
Students participating in this fellowship are undergraduate students from The City College of New York, primarily studying Psychology, Business, and related fields.

These students are at an early stage in their professional development and are exploring career pathways—particularly within Human Resources, people operations, and organizational management.

Through their academic coursework, students have developed foundational knowledge in:
  •  Organizational behavior and workplace dynamics
  •  Human psychology, motivation, and communication
  •  Business fundamentals and team collaboration
  •  Research, analysis, and written communication
However, most students do not yet have access to traditional internships, and this program is designed to provide an internship-like, applied experience that introduces them to real-world HR work.

Students are highly motivated to:
  •  Gain exposure to corporate environments
  •  Understand HR functions and career paths
  •  Build professional confidence and workplace readiness
  •  Apply classroom knowledge in practical settings
This fellowship represents a first professional experience for many participants who are first-generation students; they are eager to contribute, learn, and engage meaningfully with industry partners.
About Program Goals
The HR Consulting Experience is designed to help students:
  •  Understand the role of Human Resources
  •  Apply foundational knowledge in psychology and business to workplace challenges
  •  Gain exposure to core HR functions such as employee engagement, talent development, and performance management
  •  Conduct basic research and analysis to support HR-related initiatives
  •  Develop professional communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  •  Build confidence working with industry professionals
  •  Deliver structured recommendations in a consulting-style format
By the end of the program, students will have a clearer understanding of HR career paths and a resume-ready professional experience.
About the Collaboration Format
The HR Consulting Experience is an applied-learning program designed to simulate a real-world HR internship experience through structured, project-based collaboration with industry partners.

Students are placed into small consulting teams and matched with organizations that provide a clearly defined HR-related project. These projects are intentionally scoped to be accessible, practical, and achievable for undergraduate students with limited prior experience.

Industry partners act as project sponsors, introducing a real organizational need such as:
  •  Improving employee engagement
  •  Supporting onboarding or training initiatives
  •  Researching best practices in performance management
  •  Evaluating workplace culture or communication processes
  •  Developing simple HR tools or frameworks

Over the course of the program, student teams will:
  •  Conduct research and gather relevant information
  •  Analyze organizational challenges using basic HR frameworks
  •  Develop structured insights and recommendations
  •  Collaborate with their team and communicate with the partner organization
  •  Present findings and suggested solutions at the conclusion of the project

The experience is lightweight for partners but high-impact for students, requiring minimal time commitment while delivering meaningful exposure to real HR work.

CapSource coordinates project sourcing, structure, and collaboration logistics so that CCNY can focus on student support and learning outcomes.
